Opening a buyer's file in your slicer
Open an RFQ's model in the software you already use, and have what you send back matched to the right quote.
Every RFQ with a model has an Open in button next to its files. Pick the software you slice with, and the model is saved under a name that ends in a YB-… code. That code is what lets Yantra Bhavan match the file you send back to the right quote and rate card.
Open the RFQ
Go to RFQs and open the request. The model is listed under Files. You see the Open in button beside the files.
Choose Open in, then your slicer
If the buyer asked for confidentiality, you are asked to accept their terms first. The file is saved with a name ending in
YB-….Keep the name through your slicer
Don't rename the file. Check your slicer's output file name setting includes the input file name — in OrcaSlicer that isfilename_formatcontaining, which it does by default. The file you export or send back still contains the same
YB-…code.
Which program opens the file
Choosing a slicer in the Open in menu launches it directly only where we have seen that slicer accept a link from Yantra Bhavan — today, OrcaSlicer 2.5.0-dev. For every other choice the file is saved to your computer, and your computer opens it in whatever program is set as the default for that file type. That may not be the slicer you picked: on the Linux machine we tested, .stl and .3mf files opened in whichever slicer had been installed last.
Checked on Linux, 2026-09-29.
We have not yet checked this on Windows or macOS, so we don't say which program will open the file there.
Choosing your own default
You decide which program opens a file type, not us. To make your slicer the default for .stl or .3mf:
- Windows: right-click a file of that type, choose Open with → Choose another app, pick your slicer and tick Always use this app.
- macOS: select a file of that type in Finder, choose File → Get Info, pick your slicer under Open with, then Change All.
- Linux: right-click a file of that type in your file manager, open its properties or Open With settings, and set your slicer as the default.
Or skip the default altogether: open the saved file from inside your slicer with its own Import or Open command. The name, and so the code, stays the same either way.
If a returned file isn't matched
A file whose name lost its code is never priced against a guess. It is kept, but it can't be attached to a quote from the dashboard, so open the file again from the quote and send it back with the name intact. The code stays valid for 6 hours; a file sent back after that is refused with an error in your slicer. See troubleshooting.
Which slicers can send files back
Sending a sliced file back has been seen working from OrcaSlicer and ElegooSlicer (with a non-Elegoo printer profile). See sending a slice back for the set-up and the status of every other slicer. Bambu Studio cannot send files back, and resin and laser files are priced by hand.
