CNC Machining
Machined metal parts, quoted from your STEP file
A cutting tool removes material from a solid block until the part is what is left.
Your file is measured and sliced in your own browser, so a price appears before anything is uploaded.
What to send us
STL files must be binary. An ASCII STL is refused rather than read incorrectly, so export binary from your CAD package.
IGES is not supported yet — export STEP or a binary STL from your CAD package.
What it is good at
- Parts that have to hold a tolerance and a surface finish
- Real engineering metals — aluminium, stainless, titanium, brass
- Load-bearing parts, because the material is wrought stock rather than built up in layers
What people order
- Housings, mounts and manifolds
- Shafts, spacers and bushings
- Fixtures and tooling plates
- Machined faces on parts that are otherwise printed
What to watch out for
- Internal square corners do not exist — a tool is round, so specify a corner radius or a relief
- Deep narrow pockets need a long thin tool and get expensive fast
- Assemblies are refused: send one solid body per part, not a STEP file containing several

Availability depends on the workshop quoting your part; the quote shows you which of them can run the material you pick.
How the price is worked out
CNC prices are estimates. They are worked out from a toolpath generated with each shop’s standard settings, and from a billet sized automatically around your part.
The shop reviews your file and confirms the final price before any work starts — so treat the number as close, not as a commitment.
GST is not included in the quoted price; it is added later, in the order.
