Laser Cutting
Flat parts cut from sheet, priced by the sheet
A focused laser burns through flat stock along your outline, cutting the part out of a sheet.
Your file is measured and sliced in your own browser, so a price appears before anything is uploaded.
What it is good at
- Flat parts, fast — panels, brackets, gaskets, signage
- Clean edges on acrylic, which comes off the machine polished
- Quantity, because parts nest together on one sheet
What people order
- Enclosure panels and face plates
- Sheet-metal brackets before bending
- Acrylic signage and displays
- Gaskets and shims
What to watch out for
- The cut has a kerf and a slight taper — hole positions are accurate, hole diameters need allowing for
- Heat marks the edge; on some plastics it also melts it
- Reflective metals such as copper and brass are harder to cut, and not every machine will take them
How the price is worked out
Cutting prices are driven by the sheet, not just your part. You buy whole sheets, so one part carries a whole sheet and many parts share one.
That is why unit price falls so steeply with quantity, and steps up when another sheet is needed.
How many parts fit is estimated from the machine bed and your part’s footprint, not from a real nest, and the shop confirms the final price before any work starts.
Materials
One sheet catalogue serves all four cutting processes — metals, plastics, board, soft goods and composites.
- Mild steel sheet
- Stainless 304 sheet
- Aluminium 5052 sheet
- Galvanised steel sheet
- Acrylic
- Plywood
- MDF
- ABS sheet
- FR4 fibreglass
Availability depends on the workshop quoting your part; the quote shows you which of them can run the material you pick.
What to send us
STL files must be binary. An ASCII STL is refused rather than read incorrectly, so export binary from your CAD package.
SVG is not supported yet — export your outline as a DXF, or a binary STL extruded to the thickness you want it cut from.
