Connecting your machines

Pair a machine with an agent and it reports its own status, takes jobs automatically and shows live progress.

An agent is a small piece of software that runs on a computer in your workshop and talks to your machines. With one connected, the floor stops depending on somebody remembering to update a status.

One small computer, left running beside the machines. That is the whole installation.

What it buys you

  • The machine reports its own status. Idle, running, error — without anyone setting it by hand.
  • Work is sent automatically. The floor can put a job on the machine rather than waiting for someone to load it.
  • Live progress and an ETA. You can see how far through a run a machine is without walking over to it.
  • Finished parts move the order along as soon as the machine says it is done.
  1. Add the machine to your fleet first

An agent can only be made responsible for a machine that already exists in Machine fleet. If the machine is missing from the list later, this is why.

The machine appears in the fleet, with no agent against it yet.

  2. Add an agent

Go to Agents and add one. Name it after where the computer sits — Shed 2 bench, Office NUC — so that when it goes quiet you know which box to go and look at.

The agent is listed, showing as not yet connected.

  3. Install it and enter the enrolment code

Download the agent for your operating system, install it on that computer, and give it the one-time enrolment code shown here.

The agent connects and begins reporting. It looks for machines on your shop network every few minutes.

  4. Pair the machines it found

Once it is running, the agent lists the devices it can see. Pair each one with the machine in your fleet that it actually is. Where nothing could be matched without guessing, you are asked to pick by hand rather than being given a wrong guess.

Paired machines start showing live status on the Production Floor.

Pairing and binding are different things

Pairing matches a device the agent found on the network to a machine in your fleet. It is only offered where the agent has actually discovered something.

Binding says this agent is responsible for this machine, whether or not it announced itself. Some machines are reached through software that broadcasts nothing at all, so there is nothing to discover and you say so by hand. Binding is reversible in one click.

Getting the download

Download links for each operating system are provided by Yantra Bhavan — ask your account contact or partner support for the build that matches the computer in your workshop.

When something is not working

  • The agent shows offline. The computer is asleep, switched off, or the agent is not running. Everything else follows from this, so check it first.
  • No printers reported. The agent looks every few minutes while it runs. If nothing appears after that, the machines are not reachable from that computer's network.
  • A machine is missing from the pairing list. It is not in your fleet yet. Add it there first.
  • You replaced the computer. Issue a new enrolment code for the same agent. Its machines and history come with it.

In short

Fleet first, then an agent, then the enrolment code, then pair or bind. After that the Production Floor largely runs itself and you confirm what comes off the machines.
